Ниже список может быть неполным:

• Storage I/O can be shaped by I/O shares and limits through the new Storage I/O Control quality of service (QoS) feature
• Network I/O can be partitioned through a new QoS engine that distinguish between virtual machines, vMotion, Fault Tolerance (FT) and IP storage traffic.
• Memory compression will allow to compress RAM pages instead of swapping on disk, improving virtual machines performance.
• Distribute Resource Scheduling (DRS) now can follow affinity rules defining a subset of hosts where a virtual machine can be placed
• Virtual sockets can now have multiple virtual CPUs. Each virtual CPU will appear as a single core in the guest operating system.
• A team physical network interface cards in a vNetwork Distributed Switch can now dynamically load balance traffic.
• Health check status and operational dashboard are available for HA configurations.
• vSphere Client is no more part of the ESX and ESXi installation packages. At the end of the installation process administrators are redirected online to download the client.
• ESXi installation can be scripted. The script can start from a CD or over a PXE boot source, and can install the hypervisor on local or remote disks.
• ESX can boot from iSCSI targets (support for iBFT)
• NFS performance stats are included in esxtop and vCenter Server, as well as through the vSphere SDK.
• Virtual machines serial ports redirection over the network
• Support for up to 4 vMotion concurrent live migrations in 1GbE networks and up to 8 concurrent live migrations in 10GbE networks
• Support for USB pass-through (virtual machines can use ESX/ESXi local USB devices)
• Support for administrator password change in Host Profiles
• Support for FT in DRS clusters with with Enhanced vMotion Compatibility (EVC)
• Support for iSCSI TCP/IP Offload Engine (TOE) network interface cards (both 10GB an 1GB)
• Support for 8GB Fibre Chanell HBAs
• Support for IPsec on IPv6 network configurations
• Support for multiple Data Recovery virtual appliances
• Support for Microsoft Volume Shadow Service (VSS) in Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 guest operating systems for vStorage APIs for Data Protection (VADP)
• Update Manager (VUM) can now patch additional 3rd party modules for ESX (like EMC PowerPath)
• Virtual to Virtual (V2) migration for offline Hyper-V virtual machines in vCenter Converter
• ESX and ESXi direct support for Microsoft Active Directory through Likewise technology integration
• Support for Intel Xeon 7500 / 5600 / 3600 CPU series (this includes EVC support)
• Support for AMD Opteron 4000 / 6000 CPU series (this includes EVC support)

Некоторое время назад я озадачился вопросом почему бы не виртуализировать станцию управления HP EVA 4400, вот только официальной информации как бы нет, спросив у знакомых (Артем Проничкин как Wikipedia!), выяснилось что нечто подобное уже описывал Михаил Михеев на vm4.ru, но это не “официальный мануал” и не поддерживается HP так как и VMware Guest и установка EVA CV тоже не поддерживаются и все это датирована 12 октябрем 2009 г.

Вот только информация на страничке HP StorageWorks Command View EVA Software говорит что:

• Device Management Support for the new EVA6400 and EVA8400 Disk Arrays.
• Command View EVA support on Vmware Guest Operating Systems (windows 03 and 08).
• A single SKU to manage, replicate and optimize EVA using the attractively priced software bundle of Command View, Business Copy and Dynamic Capacity manager.
• Command View support for exchange based routing.
• Storage Essentials Performance Edition that provides enhanced performance management of the EVA array.
• Command View support on Windows Server 2008 R2.

Вот только вопрос а какой версии то идет речь? На странице про версию почему-то гордо умалчивают, но если в 9.1 про VMware Guest OS не было не слово, то можно полагать что это 9.2, тут то я и вспомнил про то что у меня есть активный суппорт контракт с HP, отписав им с вопросом о виртуализации я получил довольно интересный ответ, который указывал всего лишь на страницу со всей документацией, конечно на странице о виртуализации не было ни слова!

Но обращавшись в службу поддержки я также спросил у них где взять или посмотреть самую последнею версию EVA CV, пройдя по линку последней версий оказалось HP StorageWorks Command View EVA 9.2 (на 27.03.2010) скачав ее я принялся к изучению документации, и был приятно удивлен увидев это:

Configuring the VMware guest operating system for HP
Command View EVA
To manage Enterprise Virtual Arrays through HP Command View EVA installed on a guest operating
system, you will need to add the arrays through the VMware vSphere Client and VMware Infrastructure
client before HP Command View EVA can discover them. After installing HP Command View EVA for
the first time, or when adding a new EVA to your SAN, complete the following steps:

1. To verify that the VMware ESX server has discovered the HP EVA storage array on the SAN,
launch the VMware vSphere Client, enter the appropriate credentials, and click Login.
2. Select the ESX server and then the Configuration tab. Right click on the HBA and select Rescan.

3. After the rescan is complete, you should see the EVA information displayed under the details of
the HBA.

4. Right click on the EVA, select Manage Paths and set the policy as recommended by VMware.
Click Close.

5. To configure the EVA for the guest operating system, launch the VMware Infrastructure client,
enter the appropriate credentials and click Login.

6. Right click on the virtual machine icon and select Edit Settings.
The Virtual Machine Properties window displays the hardware visible to the guest operating
system. Select Add.
The Add Hardware Wizard appears.

7. Select SCSI Device and select Next.

8. From the dropdown list in the SCSI Device box, select the applicable device (for example, RAID-HP)
and click Next. If the list is empty, check the zoning. If you are connected to several HP arrays,
multiple Raid-HP entries will be visible.

9. Select Finish in the Ready to Complete window.
In the Virtual Machine Properties window, the added SCSI device should appear. Click OK.
Repeat steps 6 through 9 for each Raid-HP device. Each will have a different Virtual Device Node
value, such as SCSI(0:1) or SCSI(0:2).

Дальше просто ставить последнею версию EVA CV, или пользуетесь уже установленной.

Вот и все!

Похоже Михаил Михеев был прав с самого начала, а вот HP просто скопировала его пост в официальную доку

На днях произошло ещё одно чудо компания Cisco Systems, которая на вопрос: “А когда появиться поддержка x64 в ваших продуктах ?” посылала сразу в жопу, одумалась и начала двигаться в нужном направлении. Сейчас уже стал доступен VPN клиент для x64, также в скором времени обещают выпустить x64 версии клиентов связанных с UC. Скачать бету VPN клиента можно здесь.

Супер новость!, хотя долгое отсутствие Cisco Easy VPN под x64 побудило некоторых перейти на Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client, что на мой взгляд хорошо (мне к примеру удобней пользоваться AnyConnect который работает отовсюду, чем Cisco Easy VPN который в свою очередь работает не везде!
